FIRST PLACE

David & Lucille Jackson / Hillsdale, NJ

An avid collector for twenty years, Lucille Jackson’s Christopher Radko® collection currently tops out at an amazing 1,200 pieces! Using a complex system of Excel spreadsheets and sturdy boxes, Lucille and her husband David are able to keep careful track of their very special “inventory” at all times. When it comes to decorating strategy, they look to spotlight different pieces each year by varying the order in which the ornaments are hung on the tree.

“In 2006, my Christmas tree fell and smashed over 250 ornaments (and damaged more)–hence the wires we use to ensure it will not fall over now. It was challenging finding replacements and even 6 years later we still have not replaced them all… but thanks to the online Radko community we have been able to find most of them.”

In addition to their enviable primary collection, Lucille and David also decorate a romantically-themed tree each year. Lucille’s parents began this tradition, having gifted Lucille with a dozen ornaments as a tradition of good wishes just before she became a new bride. Today, this little tree holds forty-two ornaments!

SECOND PLACE

Patricia Reaves / Anniston, AL

Patricia Reaves is a collector of both our Christopher Radko® and Americana-inspired Shiny-Brite™ ornaments; she devotes an entire tree to each every year!

“I grew up in the 60′s in a home where our Christmas tradition was to go with my Dad to pick out a freshly cut tree, bring it home and decorate it with the old style lights that required you to check every bulb if one went out (my favorite job). We then placed our beautiful mercury glass garland and ornaments on the tree before listening to our Mom fuss at us for the way we put the tinsel on. Decorating my two trees with my son every year and watching him carefully place each Shiny-Brite and Radko ornament reminds me of those childhood Christmases.”

THIRD PLACE

Mike Ritchie / Manchester, MO

“We have made the decoration of the tree a family event in which the grandchildren, since they have been able to walk, help by unwrapping and delivering the ornaments to their mothers to hang on the tree. The wonder and awe expressed by the grandchildren as they unwrap the Radko ornaments is a special moment for us as grandparents. Our hope is that in the future the grandchildren will remember, by decorating their own trees with these Radko ornaments, the special time they had with their grandparents each Christmas.”

Mike Ritchie purchased his first Radko ornament in 1999. Today, his family’s collection has grown to over 275 ornaments! A special fan of “wire wrapped” vintage-inspired ornaments, Mike has tracked down fifty-seven of the seventy-five styles produced by Christopher Radko over the years, using past catalogues and collectors’ guides. Having such a large collection meant buying larger and larger trees each year…today Mike’s son and daughter-in-law graciously host a 10′ tree in their home so that the entire family can enjoy the whole collection at once.

Tarrytown, NY — Premier holiday decor company Christopher Radko, a division of Rauch Industries, Inc., announced today that it has donated over $11,000.00 to charities across the United States. These gifts were made possible through the allocation of a portion of the proceeds from sales of each ornament in an annual Charity Awareness series designed by the Radko Artists to benefit organizations devoted to researching, preventing, and raising public awareness about HIV/AIDS, autism, breast cancer, pediatric cancer, heart disease, diabetes, animal welfare, environmental protection, veterans’ affairs, and Alzheimer’s. The Christopher Radko staff collectively chooses which specific organizations will receive donations on behalf of larger causes each January.

The ten distinct designs included in each Charity Awareness series are all handmade in Europe and representative of their specific causes in a clever and whimsical way. The 2011 ornament created to endorse breast cancer awareness, for example, was a miniature high-top sneaker covered in bright pink glitter and featuring a lacquered pink ribbon. Called Fit for Walkin’, it was among Christopher Radko’s overall most popular styles of 2011. A Soldier for a Cause, the 2011 ornament designed to encourage efforts surrounding autism and autism spectrum disorders, featured a toy soldier painted in primary colors holding the iconic puzzle piece. Autism Speaks™, the world’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, was the recipient of a donation generated by sales of A Soldier for a Cause. They issued this statement upon receipt:

Autism Speaks would like to thank Christopher Radko for the generous contribution. This gift will allow us to continue funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Our mission is to improve the lives of those living with autism and their families. Thank you for doing your part.

Heather Shepardson, CEO of Christopher Radko and Rauch Industries, is a driving force behind the Charity Awareness initiative. “Our charity ornaments are always among the most pored-over and discussed, internally. It’s a series that makes us proud on personal, professional, and philanthropic levels and I look forward to continuing this tradition of ornaments for a cause in 2012 and long into the future.”

Christopher Radko Charity Awareness ornaments are available in major department stores, independent gift stores, and specialty retailers nationwide as well as online. Visit www.christopherradko.com for more information.

It is these Renaissance-era techniques and personal pride that make each keepsake precious.

Stamford, CT — AmeriCares, the global health and disaster relief organization, announced today it has received a $1,656 donation from Christopher Radko, a division of Rauch Industries, Inc., to support its ongoing relief work around the world. During the 2010 holiday season, Christopher Radko produced a one-of-a-kind ornament to benefit AmeriCares. The “Heart for Haiti” ornament was available at independent gift stores, major department stores, and specialty retailers nationwide, with a donation made for each ornament sold.

“We are very thankful to Christopher Radko and their customers for this donation. Each year, when this special ornament is displayed, they will be reminded of their generosity and how it has helped many more people around the world live longer, healthier lives,” said Diana Maguire, Vice President of Institutional Relations.

Heather Shepardson, CEO of Christopher Radko and Rauch Industries, Inc., was eager to help. “Every single one of our ornaments is a “work of heart,” and we at Christopher Radko were honored to partner with AmeriCares to create this very special piece. Collectors new and old came out to support a nation in need, and that’s the true magic of the holiday season.”

Since the January 12, 2010 earthquake, AmeriCares has delivered and distributed more than $40 million in medicines, medical supplies and humanitarian aid to more than 90 health care partners throughout the country.
